We are Freedom Fit
Est. 2015
Coach Joel, CSCS
Founder
Starting Freedom Fit was a childhood dream and one that came to fruition in 2015. Since then, what started as a mission to build a fitness community of every day working adults, has led to an overwhelmingly gratifying mission—to help the overlooked in fitness to a stellar training service. This means outside of the physical therapy sphere, using strength training as a pre-op, post-op, and general day-to-day maintenance for the 50+ community with orthopedic or physiological limitations.
His work with Jacob's Chance, a Richmond-based non-profit, provides sports, fitness, and social activities to children with special needs and their families. Since then, he's developed an internship program benefiting the students of VCU's Exercise Science department.
Joel is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Virginia Tech Alumnus with over 10,000 sessions under his belt. He brings a multi-sport background in baseball and track, with prior competition experience in in bodybuilding and powerlifting. This experience, paired with a personal interest in the field of physical therapy, creates a balanced approach to his Strength and Conditioning philosophy.
Outside of fitness, he’s served on numerous non-profit boards, is married with 3 kids, and his hobbies include reading fantasy novels and watching kung-fu movies

Trent Williams, BS (Exercise Science)
Head Coach
Coach Trent is a VCU graduate with over 2 years of experience at Freedom Fit. An alumnus of FFG's Internship program, he holds a personal interest Sports Performance.
Before college, Trent developed an interest in exercise from his athletic endeavors. Ranging from baseball to wrestling, he’d played some form of sport every year of his life until he was 17. In High School, he honed in on football as his main sport, playing until his junior year and even being named team captain during his sophomore season. Due to injuries, he wasn’t able to continue playing, which has made him all the more antsy to get back into a training setting!
Outside of the gym, you can catch Trent watching sports (mainly football and basketball), training, or hanging out with dogs. An aficionado of shows and movies (his favorite is the Godfather!), he’ll be more than happy to take your movie recommendations.
Fun fact: Trent collects shoes and considers himself a “sneakerhead” and currently has over 40(!) pairs of shoes in his growing collection!
